OPENING RECEPTION: AUGUST 13, 2010, 6 TO 9PM
In this new body of work Brian Caraway plays with the subtleties of perception by testing limitations of vision with color and composition. He is attracted to rhythms in pattern and design when researching for new compositions. The marks, however mechanical they may appear, show the slight of hand in their arrangement. Through his self-imposed process, Caraway searches for the magic of a finished piece when it comes closest to his interpretation of ‘perfect’.
Brian’s work comes from a certain state of mind, he describes it as “...kind of like staring through a chain link fence and losing the depth in your field of vision”. With the use of color and line, Caraway’s aim is to create a dance between the eye and the brain. Through his use of a vibrant color palette and thoughtfully constructed compositions, Caraway achieves this altered reality and transports the viewer into his state of mind.
Brian Caraway lives and works in Oakland, CA. He received his MFA from Mills college in 2009 and has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally.
